A nursery school located in Funabashi city in Chiba Prefecture, Japan, is a two-story building with rooftop terrace. Project was made to provide space for around 160 children who can play rounded with nature and at the same time can feel safe. Security and also simplicity are archived with placing office rooms, rooms for cooks and nursery staff on the edge of building between nursery space and entrance. Designing structure in shape of circular ring, architects made cozy playground placing courtyard in middle, with planted trees along the outer border, with stairs and bridge installed along the circle. Its O-shaped building surrounding the courtyard with outside corridor with eaves for weather protection also provides comfort and a sense of safety to adults.
In order to help children to learn real names of materials in interior and also in exterior, designers left original looks of steel, wood and stone, without using any additional colors which are usually present in nursery schools. The name of school is originated from word “Amane” which stands for “round,” “around” or “all-around”. It is representing demand of the nursery school to let children feel freedom all-around with nature and also its design of circular shape around the woods.
With its pleasant and functional form this Amanenomori nursery school helps parents to leave and after to pick up children quickly without any unnecessary stops felling satisfy knowing that their children spend useful and joyful time there.
